I love documentaries, I love music and I love guitars so this movie seemed to be right up my alley and although there are a ton of beautiful shots and videos of vintage gear and some amazingly awesome guitar playing, the movie itself wasn't very entertaining to me. Don't get me wrong, I'll watch it again and again because the content of the movie is secondary to the REAL bonus for me and that is the fact that it inspires me to play.
Never before while watching a movie have I wanted to play along so much. Well, not play ALONG (a no-fingered man could count the number of songs from either U2, Led Zeppelin or the White Stripes that I know on his non-existant fingers) but play with. Especially Jimmy Page. Watching him play lit a FIRE in me and I wanted to rock out.
I'm sure with each subsequent dive into the movie I'll pick more and more of the actual content out and maybe enjoy it more, but honestly, that seems like the less important thing to me.
Obviously I enjoyed it and I heartily recommend it to every guitarist to check out. I mean, it's a movie made for guitarists. Even if you hate all three guitarists or the bands that they play with you should STILL go out and rent or buy this movie not only for the cool gear porn witnessed throughout but because it would be really cool to see MORE real movies dedicated to us.
Even though guitar-playing is a hobby that transcends normal qualifiers that usually come with hobbies, I don't think it's as accepted as it should be. I mean, what other hobby could someone play whether they're a child or an elderly person, do inside or outside, develop to whatever extent they desire, perhaps make money at and NEVER master? Guitar playing is both the most rewarding and frustrating thing in the world besides marriage because you can always get better but you'll never really master the guitar. There is ALWAYS something more that you can learn.
I like it.
And like I said, I want to see more movies like this. Guitar stories, live playing, explaining tricked out gear and band history - these are things I love deeply. They make me want to play more because talking about guitar always does.
So embrace it, folks. Send a message with your money and say that while this may not be your cup of tea (though honestly, it's Jimmy Page rocking out. How can you NOT like that?) you are interested in more.

I've been wanting to see this for ages. Just saw it was 7 quid on Amazon, so ordered it. I'm a big Jimmy Page fan. I appreciate Edge's talent, but I've never been a big U2 fan. As for Mr White, I like his "back to basics" attitude.
I'll just have to find time to watch it. Not been buying DVDs lately as I have so many that are unwatched.
I bought this movie as soon as I saw it. Funny how the phrase "Guitar Porn" is also frequently used in my household as my wife watches me drool over various guitar pictures and reviews.
I thought the whole "Young Jack White" thing was kinda stupid and overly "artsy", but Jack is a very weird guy anyway.
Other than that, I loved it, and can't wait to see if they do a sequel with some other legendary guitarists (how about Tony Iommi or Jeff Beck from the 60's/70's, Steve Vai or Joe Satriani from the 80's/90's, and John 5?)
