Quick question for the readers out there:
Do you want sound samples with reviews of, say, pedals?
I understand the initial inclination is probably "yes," but think about it before you answer because so far the amount of people reading my reviews are FAR different than the number of people listening to the sound samples.
Which I guess makes sense. I you're reading the review at work, you wouldn't want to betray your probably covert activities to your coworkers by listening to something, or perhaps you don't want to click into a new window/tab.
And then there's the variables. What kind of guitar are you using? What kind of amp are you using? How are your strings? What time of day is it? What DAY is it? All sorts of variables that might sway you into thinking that sound samples are a good bonus, but the only way to know for sure how something sounds is to play it on your gear with your hands and head with your ears.
My point is this: there are a lot of reasons NOT to listen to sound samples and because of this, I wanted to ask if you folks like mine and want more?

Pappy, my two cents,
While not all readers will listen to sound samples I think they are invaluable, iff it can be done without much effort to you (I mean I would rather there be a review instead of lack of one due to issues with sound recording)
The reason I say this is that these samples are quite unique and at times many of us only really understand what the pedals do based on sound samples.
Caveat: you could drop the samples for oft used pedals, or if there are example samples already out there in internet wilderness.
I like sound samples or video as sounds are difficult to describe. Obviously there are limitations, but it gives people more idea of whether the gear is something they need to investigate further
Sure, when reviewing gear samples are helpful.
Sound samples - Yes. In context with music - even better.
You answered your own question Pappy, I believe there should NOT be sound samples and I will also mention one more reason:
-Quality of recording, Do you have a controlled environment and the best suited mic's and preamps to your speaker amp combination?
Like you said there are way to many variables with what everyone used and what you get our of an effect can be totally different to what I get out of an effect, however a detailed written description would please me a lot more than a sound sample.
Its happen to me a few times, I've made the trip to the music store and tried out an effect, brought it home only to have it be very different with my set up.. this is why I don't do custom pedals for people, because what I think is a good sound with my gear is going to be totally different to what others want.
However if the articles are still coming as details as you make them then sound samples make no difference to reading it to me..
Ow and I totally agree with Godbox FX, if you are going to do sound samples then please in the context of music as it shows how and effect performs with the rest of the accompaniment
but again, all in all if your blog posts are there, I will enjoy them with or without sound samples..
